LinC Training: Communicative Competence

‘My boss has just told me that I have to go to Dubai on business next week.’

More and more of us are faced with this kind of situation nowadays, especially when we work in a globalised business environment. Business people today have to be highly flexible. They need to feel self-confident when working in cultures which are different to their own and they need the language skills to achieve this.

We at LinC are convinced that the key to success for working in an international environment is communicative competence.
So rather than concentrating solely on grammar we focus on improving fluency and building up your self confidence. This we achieve using simulations and discussions focusing on business and technology, backed up by current audio and visual materials.

You will of course have the chance to read and write and there will also be plenty of chances to laugh as we know from research that the more fun you have, the better you will remember something.

The LinC concept – Four steps to ensuring success

To assess your present language level we use a state-of-the-art language test and a questionnaire. On this basis we design your personal road map in order to help you achieve your specific goals. We then develop tailor-made materials, which correspond to your individual needs. With your professional background in mind we then select appropriate materials such as reports, articles simulations and audio / visual media etc.

Step 2: Language focus

Our USP (unique selling position) is the ‘LinC Language Focus’. How does this work? During the actual training session we document key language items which occur. These might be phrases relevant to your work, important grammatical items or any problems with pronunciation. This document is then sent to you as an email attachment and consolidated in the following language session, to enable sustainable learning.

Step 3: Global English

Working in an international context means that you are confronted with different forms of behaviour. In raising your awareness of these cultural differences LinC boosts your confidence when working in a global environment.
